Why the numbers here differ from other sites
Most running-cost calculators quietly ignore the things that actually move the answer. We don't, because those details are usually the difference between a sensible decision and an expensive one.
- Charging losses are counted. Roughly 10% of the electricity your EV draws never reaches the battery. Calculators that skip this understate your real cost by about a tenth.
- We show when the answer is "no". An EV charged only at fast chargers can genuinely cost more per mile than an efficient hybrid. A heat pump isn't always cheaper than gas. We say so.
- Every formula is published. Our methodology page lists every assumption and its source, so you can check our work or substitute your own figures.
